The Chapter’s History

During the fall 2004 semester, a group of NYU professional staff members in the Department of Residential came together to found a chapter of National Residence Hall Honorary at NYU. Together they identified a group of talented leaders to assist in the formation of NRHH at NYU. The founding members and advisors are:

Members

Nicholas Martin Resident Assistant (Water Street)
Nelda Chang Resident Assistant (University Court & 26th Street )
Therese Grande Resident Assistant (Third North)
Jim Zulick Resident Assistant (Water Street)
Massiel Garcia National Communications Coordinator (IRHC)

The founding team implemented and facilitated the membership selection process for the first chapter of NRHH at NYU. Additionally, they drafted the organization’s constitution and planned the first annual induction ceremony. In May 2005, the inaugural NRHH chapter was inducted at NYU, which consisted of 36 regular members and 2 honorary members.

In the academic year 2005-2006, the NRHH Executive Board and General Assembly voted to name NYU’s chapter The Torch Chapter of NRHH at NYU. This group worked diligently to lead the chapter through its first year as an organization. Through active general assembly meetings, service projects, the OTM process, and campus-wide recognition events, the Torch Chapter saw much growth and progress. In the spring of 2006, 45new members were inducted.

The Torch Chapter continues to grow each year and become active members of the residential community. For more information about current members, upcoming events, or how you can get involved in NRHH at NYU, please explore the additional pages of our website.
