The Inter-Residence Hall Council’s annual talent competition has expanded this year in an effort to encompass NYU’s expanding presence in both New York and across the globe. This year in addition to the first place winners from each residence hall’s preliminary competition, we will be including the winner of Commuters Got Talent and the winner of NYU-Poly’s residence hall talent show!

This year’s talent includes original bands, a juggler, a rapper, a contortionist, somebody who makes music on Gameboys, and a violinist who mixes classical and modern music.
Also featuring a special performance by last year’s UVL winner EMEFE!

Make sure to get to Skirball early to ensure that you get in and have a good seat. The seats go fast! Doors open at 6:30

NYU MLK Week – Feb. 6-Feb. 1

On February 10, 1961, the 32-year old Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a speech on the campus of New York University. Dr. King’s speech entitled, “The Future of Integration,” advocated for civil rights and nonviolent protest for social change. He said, “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”

For the seventh-consecutive year, the University will commemorate Dr. King’s visit and his legacy by hosting a week-long schedule of special events and programs. This year’s theme is intended to open up critical dialogue around where we are, and where we are going, on the path towards social change and social justice.

What is the Future of Diversity in the Media, Arts, Education, Cities, Economy, Immigration and Activism? Find out at the university-wide event during MLK Week at NYU, featuring 7 leaders from various areas speaking for 7 minutes on 7 topic areas surrounding this year’s theme, The Future of Diversity: Here & Now. Confirmed speakers include Dr. Cornel West, Princeton University Professor, philosopher and influential intellectual, who will address the issue of activism; and Dr. Mitchell L. Moss, Director of the Rudin Center for Transportation and Henry Hart Rice Professor of Urban Policy and Planning at NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, who will speak about the issue of cities.

We will also be presenting the NYU MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award to Associate Professor Jack Tchen who is the Founding Director of NYU’s Asian/Pacific/American Institute and co-founder of the Museum of Chinese in America.

Jack is an alumnus of the NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science, ’90, ’92.

Mark your calendars: the second annual Pay it Forward is happening Tues, Feb 28th! This year we’re handing out postcards and pens and asking people to give them to someone they’d like to recognize, for whatever reason.
We’re asking everyone to wear their NRHH tshirts that day, and if you’re willing, we’ll give you Pay it Forward tote bags filled with postcards & pens to give out. We’ll also be tabling in Kimmel from Noon-4PM.

Each person who wins an OTM & writes the winning OTM in the following
categories gets a $150 Superdry giftcard. So for example, if you write an OTM
for a FYRE RA in Feb and it wins, both you and the RA you wrote it for gets
$150.

Come ice skating with Housie and the IRHC at the 4th Annual FLURRY! Ice skating in Central Park is a New York winter tradition and the IRHC wants you to do it for free! We’ll even bus you up there on classy double-decker tour busses. When you arrive, make sure not to miss the candy tent filled with all your favorite sweets!

WHAT: Ice Skating, Double Decker Guided Bus Tours, & TONS of Free Candy!

WHERE: Wollman Rink in Central Park.

In addition the two signature events, Fellows will be hosting events in their residence halls and invite everyone on campus to attend.
